PREPAREDNESS FOR LIVESTOCK
Prepare, practice, and update your disaster plan. Include your family members, neighbors and friends. As an animal owner, you are responsible for the evacuation and sheltering of your animals in a disaster.
IF YOU ARE TOLD TO EVACUATE,
DO SO IMMEDIATELY
and take all your animals with you.
PREPARE
1. Know your evacuation routes ( printable map HERE )
2. Make sure your animals are familiar with being loaded and transported
3. Locate and prearrange an evacuation site for you and your livestock and know how to get to the main large evacuation sites, Del Mar Fairgrounds and Horsepark
4. If you need assistance, have a plan with a friend or neighbor who can assist you
5. Create defensible space around your barn and corrals click here.
6. Have identification ON your animals (phone #, name). There are several good options available including dog tags (available at most pet stores), fetlock bands.

FIRE ALERT NOTIFICATIONS
Get the apps to follow in real time
1.Pulse Point:www.pulsepoint.org/download. You chose the fire departments you want to follow (e.g., RSF Fire) and what you want to be notified of (e.g., vegetation fire). This app reports to you what is being reported out by dispatch. Elfin and Forest (ElfinForest Harmony Grove FSC) It will alert you about what types of apparatus is sent, the time of call, and when the situation is cleared.
2. Watch Duty:www.watchduty.org You can tap on a map of the Western US, with incidents marked by a fire icon and retrieve up-to-date information on an incident.
3.Facebook:www.facebook.com This is a widely-used mobile app. Sign-up and “friend” or “like” your local fire departments (e.g., RSF Fire), Fire Safe Councils (ElfinForest Harmony Grove FSC), and other important organizations (CalFire San Diego) to follow posted information. We also suggest “following” various community pages, such as Elfin Forest Harmony Grove Town Council; Keepin’ it Rural; and Harmony Grove Village Residents.
4.Twitter:twitter.com/Twitter Often has the most up to date fire information on active fire incidents. All you do is “search” and “follow” fire departments (e.g., RSF Fire and Cal Fire San Diego).
5.San Diego County Emergency:www.readysandiego.org/content/oesready/en- us/SDEmergencyApp. Once you sign up, it will notify users of evacuation orders and other emergencies. It offers Twitter links and preparation information, along with open shelters and maps.
6.SDGE Alerts:www.sdge.com /alerts-sdge Once you sign up, it will alert you of area power outages. It also reports current weather information, highlights numerous cameras around county, and offers other valuable information.
ANIMAL EVACUATION AGENCIES
County of San Diego Department of Animal Services
24 hr. emergency – They will connect and coordinate with all agencies authorized to evacuate all animals. 619.236.2341
San Diego Humane Society has mutual aid agreement with San Diego County Animal Services and partners with them when a disaster is declared.

ELFIN FOREST SAFE PICK-UP: STAGING SITES
***There are 3 pick-up staging sites in Elfin Forest approved by Animal Services, Humane Society and Rancho Santa Fe Fire. They serve as pick-up sites once an evacuation order has been given. You will be responsible for getting your livestock to these locations and remaining with them until they are evacuated.
